From its base in Waterford Ireland, Poynstown Sport Horses is run by Robert & Paula Widger plus their 3 sons Sam, Colm, and Joe all of whom are keen pony riders. In the traditional Irish farm base in southeast Ireland they breed, produce & sell top quality sport horses for the world stage under the ‘Poynstown’ banner.
Since its establishment over 14 years ago Poynstown Sport Horses have been sold all over the world & can be seen at the very top of the sport. Robert’s aim is very simple – to source a horse that is suitable to the rider’s needs & one that has the potential to go to the top.

About Us
Robert has been involved in horses all his life. His family have a long & successfully history in the equestrian world. The 1895 English Grand National Winner was Wild Man of Borneo which was owned & trained by the Widger family plus ridden by Robert’s granduncle Joe.
Robert was very success as a kid show jumping ponies. He rode on the Irish show jumping team. After ponies he turned to horse racing where he rode as a professional jockey in England for 6 years & then returned home where he rode in point to points for 3 years. Then Robert turned his focus on breeding & producing sport horses. Robert, Paula, and their sons live near Tramore in southeast Ireland. Here they breed & produce a selection of hunters, show jumpers, Connemara ponies & eventers.
Throughout Roberts life in the equine industry, he has developed connections that allow him to source horses from the four corners of Ireland & ensures he has the best quality of Irish Sport Horses in the yard.
Robert believes in that the foundation training a horse receives is the most influential stage in its life. It gives the animal confidence & braveness in any aspects its faced at a later stage. On our farm we are very lucky to have a vast selection of typically Irish banks & drains to school all the horses over. Also, we have many beaches within a few miles to hack & trek. All of these ensure that every horse leaves the farm with fundamental knowledge & training.
